Bushfire Hazard – BAL Assessment

Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) Assessments

If your building is being constructed in a Bushfire Prone Area (BPA) an assessment to determine the Bushfire Attack Level (BAL) is required. In the BPA, a minimum construction standard applies to new residential buildings, schools, childcare centres, hospitals, aged care facilities and associated buildings. Landowners then need to build to national bushfire construction standards based on the BAL determined for the site.

Treetec can offer BAL assessments which involve a desktop and site investigation considering the target FDI (Fire Danger Index), ground slope, vegetation types and distribution to determine a BAL rating for your build.

There are five BAL levels in Victoria, ranging from BAL-12.5 to BAL-FZ (Flame Zone) (see image). BAL assessments can be prepared as a standalone document or integrated into other arboricultural or ecological services we provide.
